Privacy policy and terms page checker
Group E2 pointsrubric r1
We find links to privacy and terms pages in your homepage (matching privacy, terms, tos, legal), fall back to /privacy and /terms, and check for a 2xx response.
Why it matters
Agents acting for a user check whether a site states how it handles data before sending the user to enter details. Missing legal pages look like a throwaway site. Privacy and terms are each worth 1 point.
How to fix it
- Publish a privacy policy at
/privacyand terms at/terms. - Link both from the footer of every page using clear link text such as "Privacy Policy".
- Return
200with the policy text in the HTML, not in a PDF viewer or a script. - Name the company, the date of the last update and a contact address.
How to verify
Run curl -s -o /dev/null -w "%{http_code}" https://example.com/privacy and the same for /terms.
