Open Graph and meta description checker

Group C2 pointsrubric r1

We look in the homepage HTML for a meta property="og:title" tag and a meta name="description" tag with content.

Why it matters

These two tags are the summary a page gives about itself. An agent building a source list or a link card uses them before it reads the body. When both are missing it has to write its own summary from whatever text comes first, often a cookie banner. Each tag is worth 1 point, and the description is truncated at 160 characters in most previews.

How to fix it

  1. Add <meta name="description" content="One sentence on what the page offers.">.
  2. Add <meta property="og:title" content="Page title">.
  3. Also add og:description, og:url and og:image for complete previews.
  4. Write a different description for each page, around 150 characters.

How to verify

Run curl -s https://example.com/ | grep -iE "og:title|name=.description" and expect two matching tags.
